Block on Trump's Asylum Ban Upheld by Supreme Court
Snickers are known for being full of peanuts and nougat, but Rogelio Mauricio Harris of Long Beach, California thought the recipe could use a kick, so he filled his snickers bars with meth.
Harris was on his way to Japan when customs agents searched his bag during a routine baggage inspection.
The agents first noticed that Harris had a large box of Snickers in his bag. But upon closer inspection those bars were reportedly lacking the signature combination of nougat, caramel, and peanuts.
Turns out you pack a lot of meth into a box of what looks like candy bars.
Harris was caught allegedly trying to smuggle more than 4 pounds of meth out of the country in the form of Snickers bars.
That amount is worth about $250,000, according to Huffington Post.
Charged with drug possession, Harris now faces a long time behind bars. If he's convicted the minimum punishment in California is 10 years and the maximum is life in prison.
Looks like the chocolate coating didn't throw off the feds.
Harris was trying to get the drugs out of the U.S., so he's not on the hook for drug trafficking. If he'd made it to Japan before being caught, all bets are off as to how their law enforcement would deal with the situation.
Drug possession is both a federal and state crime but because Harris was caught by federal customs agents, he's being charged under federal law. Punishment for possession varies by the amount of the drug a suspect has which explains the huge punishment Harris faces if convicted.
Harris is probably sorry he ever came up with the idea of meth-flavored Snickers given the trouble he finds himself in and they probably won't catch on. The only high you'll be getting from the Snickers on store shelves is a sugar one.
