Nashville Predators Sued Over Hockey Stunt
A Nashville radio personality has brought a lawsuit against the Nashville Predators for a hockey stunt gone wrong.
Adam "Intern Adam" Davis filed the lawsuit against the hockey team claiming that he was seriously injured last December when he was invited to take part in the "human hockey puck" stunt.
Davis is suing the team for $25,000 for medical bills. He says he broke his ankle when he was shot across the rink in a giant slingshot directly into a wall, reports The Associated Press.
The hockey stunt was supposed to occur during intermission of a Nashville Predators game against the Calgary Flame. Prior to the game, Davis was asked to practice the stunt where he would be placed in a sled and shot across the rink with the slingshot. Had the stunt gone right, Davis would have slid into some bowling pins.
Instead, Davis was thrown into the side of the rink and broke his ankle, reports the AP. Davis needed surgery to repair his ankle and apparently racked up $25,000 in medical bills too.
In his lawsuit, Davis likely claimed that the Predators were negligent in setting up the hockey stunt. After all, when an organization puts on a contest or promotion that involves shooting someone in a giant slingshot, the organization likely owes a duty to the participant to ensure that the stunt is safe. And if someone is injured as a result of the stunt, the organization could be liable.
However, given the obvious dangers of being shot in a slingshot across a hockey rink, the Nashville Predators could offer the defense to the lawsuit that Davis assumed the risk of harm by participating in the first place.
