Do You Have CLE Credits Due Soon?

It's nearly that time of year again: continuing legal education (CLE) credits are due soon. The deadline to submit your CLE compliance may be coming up depending on your jurisdiction. This leaves many attorneys wondering where to find CLE courses.

First off, make a decision. Do you want to do online CLE courses or traditional in-person events? The former is probably easier to fit into your schedule. The latter will likely draw out more of your undivided attention.

Below are some simple tips you can use to find CLE courses to fit your needs:

In-person events:

• Check out your local bar association's website. Your state and local bar association typically have events and speaker series. Many of these programs will qualify for CLE credit. Attending these workshops do not only offer a chance to learn some substantive law. They're also an opportunity to network. The downside is that oftentimes these events may require some planning, as advanced registration may be required.
• Look into CLE retreats. Some organizations may put on multi-day retreats that will delve deeply into specific topics. Events take place over several days, so it's possible to complete all your CLEs at once. Remember though, these retreats may be expensive. It may also require you to book a hotel.
• Look up local law schools. Law schools and law student organizations are constantly churning out academic events. Oftentimes, CLE credit will also be given for attending. The upside? Some events may be free.

Web-based events:

• Self-study with an online course. There are many websites out there that offer online CLE courses. Many of these sites offer options for users to register for courses and take them on demand, according to their own schedules. Some may offer live webinars. These sites often offer a diverse array of topics.

These aren't the only avenues attorneys may use to find CLE courses. In fact, it's likely that your email is already flooded with marketing letters from various CLE providers. Just remember: finish your CLEs before your state's deadline.
