Practical Legal Advice in a Podcast
Where do you go when you have a question about the law or practice? To FindLaw's legal professional blogs, of course! But aside from blogs, some of the best advice you can get will often come from your colleagues -- the expert down the hall, if you will.
It's those conversations that are the inspiration for a new podcast, "Thomson Reuters: Down the Hall With Practical Law." (Disclosure: Thomson Reuters is FindLaw's parent company.) "Down the Hall" tries to recreate that informal expertise sharing -- except you don't need a hall or your own experts. Just a few minutes and a pair of headphones will do.
Practical Law and Practical Podcasts
"Down the Hall With Practical Law" debuted last Wednesday and already has three podcasts "on the air." The podcast, which is part of the Legal Talk Network, is hosted by Renee Karibi-Whyte, a smooth-voiced director with the Legal Know-How Group at Thomson Reuters.
Here's how the podcast describes itself:
Treatises, case law, Google... what do they have in common? When you need answers, none of these will get you started faster than walking down the hall to chat with an expert. Down the Hall with Practical Law will host a panel of law firm and in-house law department leaders as well as Practical Law's editorial team that will feature plain English 'What do I really need to know?' discussions and insights on trending legal topics. No legalese; just expertise.

Each episode so far features Karibi-Whyte in conversation with experts from Practical Law, Thomson Reuters' collection of legal solutions for law firms and in-house legal departments. So far, "Down the Hall" has covered:

Conversation is key to "Down the Hall." These aren't lectures or CLEs or recitations of black letter law, they're friendly discussions about issues that matter to lawyers (and their clients). They're informal, friendly, and informative. The discussion between Karibi-Whyte and startup and venture capital expert Joe Green ranges from corporate structuring and pass through taxes to jokes about tech startup names.
