Block on Trump's Asylum Ban Upheld by Supreme Court
Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather was arrested for drunk driving in Virginia on Thursday.
Arlington County police pulled Meriweather over for speeding around 3 a.m. Officers clocked the two-time Pro Bowler going 73 mph in a 55 mph zone. Meriweather allegedly smelled like alcohol, The Washington Post reports. The NFL player refused a breathalyzer test and was given a field sobriety test instead. He failed the exam.
So where was Meriweather in such a hurry from?
Where else? A night club.
It must have been a heck of a night, too, because he couldn't remember the name of the place, according to police.
Meriweather was charged with a DUI and refusing to take a breathalyzer exam. He was jailed and later released the same day.
In Virginia, refusing to take a blood or breath test within three hours after a DUI arrest is actually against the law. That's because in order to drive in the state, drivers give implied consent to take these exams. Conviction for the offense can result in a 1 to 3-year license suspension.
As for Meriweather's DUI charge, if convicted he could be fined $250 and have his driver's license revoked for a year. If Meriweather has prior DUI convictions, at the worst he could get a $1,000 fine, his license revoked, and up to six months in jail.
However, the potential fines probably wouldn't be more than a drop in the bucket for him. The NFL athlete just signed a two-year deal with the Redskins for $2 million last month.
Since there aren't any reports of a criminal record, it's likely the worst part of Brandon Meriweather's arrest will be his embarrassment.
