Brett Favre Scandal Deepens with New Sexual Harassment Suit
Brett Favre is one of those people that just won't go away. He has contemplated retiring every summer since 2002, and has been a PR nightmare for the NFL . Now, despite the fact that he is allegedly retired (again), a Brett Favre scandal is back in the news again.
This time, it's because Favre and the New York Jets are being sued by two former Jets massage therapists who said he sexually harassed them.
The therapists claim they were dismissed by the Jets after they complained that Favre sent them sleazy messages trying to arrange a sexual encounter. The alleged advances were made in 2008 while Favre was with the Jets. The Brett Favre sexual harassment plaintiffs are Christina Scavo and Shannon O'Toole. According to the plaintiffs, a third therapist received a text message from Favre trying to set up a group sexual encounter.
"Brett here. You and Crissy want to get together? I'm all alone," the suit says Favre wrote, Reuters reports. "Kinda of lonely tonight [sic]. I guess I have bad intentions." The messages allegedly occurred around the same time as another Brett Favre scandal, when he allegedly making unwanted sexual advances towards Jets team hostess Jenn Sterger. Farve was fined $50,000 by the NFL for failing to cooperate with the subsequent investigation.
Sexual harassment is generally defined as unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature, when submission to or rejection of this conduct explicitly or implicitly affects an individual's employment, unreasonably interferes with an individual's work performance or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive work environment.
According to the Brett Favre sexual harassment lawsuit, Jets team coordinator Lisa Ripi acknowledged that Favre sent the messages, but told her to keep quiet. "For sure feel horrible that u had to go thru that w/a pervert [sic]," said a message from Ripi to O'Toole, according to the suit.
