Darius Miles Arrested: Ex-NBA Star Had Loaded Gun at Airport

Former NBA star Darius Miles has been arrested at Lambert Airport in St. Louis. Apparently, Darius Miles had a gun - and it was loaded.
Miles was drafted into the NBA in 2000 as the No. 3 pick and played for the Memphis Grizzlies as well as with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Miles, 29, was arrested after TSA security found that he had a gun during an X-ray screening. There were no details as to where the gun was found, or what type of gun it was, according to the AP.
Clearly, if Miles really was carrying a loaded weapon on the plane, he was in violation of TSA security rules.
TSA rules mandate that while passengers can carry weapons onto the plane, including firearms, the firearm must be in a checked bag, cannot be loaded, must be packed in a hard-sided container and must be declared to the airline when the passenger is checking in, the AP reports.
And, different airlines may have different policies about how firearms can be transported on flights.
It's also unclear what Miles was thinking about when he brought the loaded gun to the airport. With the increase in TSA security, passengers are now often required to go through body scans or pat-down procedures that would likely have discovered any concealed weapons on a person's body.
That, and if he wanted to bring the gun in on a carry-on baggage, the baggage would have gone through the X-ray screening machines. One would hope that TSA agents would be able to spot the silhouette of a gun on an X-ray.
Though Darius Miles was arrested for the concealment of the loaded weapon, it isn't his first brush with the law. Miles was previously charged with drug possession after police found a plastic bag containing marijuana in his car, though those charges were dropped earlier this year. So far, no charges have been filed against Darius Miles for the gun, reports, the AP.
