Ex-NHL Player Mike McBain Accused of Molesting Girl
Former NHL hockey player Mike McBain is accused of molesting and raping a 12-year-old girl.
If that is not horrendous enough, the girl is McBain's stepdaughter and McBain is accused of impersonating a teammate so that he could hear his stepdaughter recount their sexual encounters.
The alleged molestation was eventually revealed when the victim told her mom. McBain then reportedly tried to kill himself and admitted the crime, reports the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Mike McBain's molestations allegedly happened over the course of three years. It reportedly started when the girl was 12 as she slept in between McBain and her mother, reports the Review-Journal. The victim says that McBain began touching her inappropriately and that the sexual abuse later escalated to rape.
The rape was apparently not enough, and McBain is alleged to have later pretended to be another hockey player, Jason Krischuk, who the young victim had a crush on. McBain is alleged to have created a fake email and corresponded with the victim as Krischuk to get her to send lewd photographs and describe sexual encounters with McBain, reports the Review-Journal.
After the girl told her mother of the abuse, McBain allegedly fled to Oregon and tried to kill himself. McBain's failed in his suicide attempt and as he recovered he reportedly admitted the sexual abuse to the girl's mother and even wrote a "sorry" letter to the victim.
McBain now faces nine felony charges of molesting and abusing the girl. McBain says that he wants to avoid a trial to spare the victim from reliving the experiences in court. McBain may also want to avoid a trial, as the case appears to be open-and-shut.
While all criminal defendants are innocent until proven guilty, Mike McBain's actions following the revelations of the molestation strongly point to guilt. He fled the state, tried to kill himself, admitted the crime, and then wrote a "sorry" letter.
