Isaiah Rider Arrested: Ex-NBA Slam Dunk Champ's Parole Violation

Former NBA player Isaiah Rider was arrested in Arizona on a parole violation this week.
Rider was placed on probation after he attempted to escape from police who pulled him over for erratic driving in 2010.
The former NBA star has a troubled past. He played for various NBA teams between 1993 and 2001, including the Timberwolves, Blazers, Hawks, Lakers and Nuggets. He was known for his dunking abilities: he won an All-star dunk contest.
But all his triumphs seemed to be overshadowed by his mounting personal and legal troubles.
As a player, Rider was reportedly late to many NBA practices, meetings and games. He also had multiple run-ins with the law. He was once convicted of kicking a sports bar manager. He was arrested for marijuana possession and possessing an illegal cell phone. After Rider was cut from the Denver Nuggets in 2001, his NBA career ended.
Rider's legal problems only escalated after he stopped playing.
In 2006, Rider was arrested for domestic violence against a former girlfriend. He was arrested for felony cocaine possession and spent a few months in jail.
His legal problems didn't end there. In 2008, he was arrested in Berkeley for possessing an unlawful firearm and confronting a taxi driver. He was also arrested in Los Angeles and was investigated for auto theft.
In 2010, Rider was arrested again after an altercation with his fiancé. He also stiffed a cab driver of a $150 fare.
What's next for Rider? In many cases, parole violations will result in a court-ordered hearing. Judges will sentence violators to penalties including jail time and fines depending on the situation.
So far, it's unclear what Isaiah Rider was arrested for and what he did that violated his parole. But given his history of arrest it's likely that a judge won't be too lenient when it comes to sentencing.
