Apple Watch Defect Class Action Pops Off
The latest lawsuit against tech giant Apple claims that its newest signature product, the Apple Watch, has had a significant defect in every single model since debuting in 2015.
The defect claimed in the lawsuit is almost comical and involves the device's screen just popping off. The allegations claim that the problem is a known defect to Apple, but the company refuses to acknowledge it, nor provide warranty support for it (which is usually what the company does when known defects are acknowledged). The lawsuit seeks $5 million dollars in damages.
Not Just Popping Off
In addition to claims that Apple Watch screens just pop off, other defects include screens becoming cracked or shattered, through no fault of the user. The problem alleged can happen almost as soon as a consumer starts using the product.
The lawsuit posits that the screen defect is related to the battery defect that Apple has acknowledged, and in some instances, actually provided extended warranty support. That problem involves batteries expanding, causing the back-covers to pop off. It seems to be a logical extension that the battery expansion could cause the screen to pop off or become damaged.
Collecting Class Actions
The Apple Watch class action comes on the heels of another class action filed over the company's Macbook Pro's "butterfly" keyboard. While the company has acknowledged that issue, it claims that users need to clean their keyboards, using compressed air blown at the keys at a certain angle, to prevent it from happening.
Unfortunately for the device maker, this class action seems to be gathering quite a bit of steam as the Change.org petition is now at over 30,000.
