Can Uber, Task Rabbit Save Your Valentine's Day?
It's Valentine's Day. And you've been so busy billing that you forgot to get a gift for your sweetheart. What's a busy lawyer to do?
Yes, you can still pick up flowers and chocolates and an "I love you" teddy bear holding a heart. But that requires you to leave your office. Who has time for that?
Thankfully, technology is here to save the day.
Uber -- the somewhat pricey, app-based car service now available in 30 cities around the world -- is offering a special "Romance on Demand" package in 15 North American locations: Washington D.C., San Francisco, Chicago, New York City, LA, Boston, Seattle, Atlanta, Dallas, San Diego, Philadelphia, Denver, Phoenix, Minneapolis, and Toronto.
For Valentine's Day only, you can select the "rose" in your Uber app, and an uber-classy Uber driver will deliver flowers and treats to your sweet. But it isn't cheap.
The contents of the "Romance on Demand" package vary from city to city. For example, in San Francisco, you can send your special someone "Whole Trade roses from Whole Foods, a gift bag filled with treats from Bay Area vendors, and a serenade from "one of six soul stirring local musical acts." For only $150.
For the same price in New York and D.C., you just get the roses. In Dallas and Atlanta, Uber-delivered roses will set you back $95.
You get the idea. Deals differ according to your location. The Uber blog has links to the "Romance on Demand" options by city, if you're interested.
Looking for a less expensive, more specific way to save your Valentine's Day? If you're in one of the nine regions that Task Rabbit serves, you could hire a helper to do your Valentine's Day shopping, cooking, or planning for you.
TaskRabbits are pres-screened people in your city or neighborhood who offer their services to take care of your personal errands. TaskPosters are "busy people from all walks of life" -- sound familiar? -- who use Rabbits to outsource everyday errands and skilled tasks. A task could be anything from assembling furniture, to picking up flowers.
Task Rabbit currently screens helpers in Boston, San Antonio, Chicago, Portland, New York City, the San Francisco Bay Area, Austin, Seattle, Los Angeles, and Orange County.
No matter what type of service you choose, there's a tech-based option that can still save your Valentine's Day.
Happy Heart Day! Now get back to work.
