Super Bowl Tech -- 5 Gadgets You Need on Game Day

By Gabriella Khorasanee, JD on January 31, 2014 | Last updated on March 21, 2019

The Super Bowl is upon us and whatever your reasons for watching, there are lots; many tune it to watch the game, but some of us are in it purely for the food and the commercials. When else can you gorge yourself on nachos, pizza and chicken wings -- at the same time?

So for all you hardworking lawyers who are actually taking some time off for the biggest game of the year, we've put together a list of gadgets or apps that you'll want handy on Sunday.

1. Live Tweeting/Updates

You know social media is going to go crazy on Sunday. If you want in, then make sure your accounts are all in order. If you want to be able to tweet and update your Facebook Newsfeed at the same time, consider Hootsuite. Also, if you only want to engage with the TV viewing audience, check out tvtag (formerly GetGlue).

2. Deep Fryer

Yes, many people order their wings, but if you like to get your hands dirty in the kitchen try making your own wings. All you need is a really great recipe for Buffalo wings and good deep fryer. Where else but your own kitchen can you get wings exactly as you like them? In my case, skin off, extra crispy and Buffalo sauce made using Frank's RedHot sauce. You're welcome.

3. Smart Phone

If you are not about to make your own wings (or nachos, or pizza) then have your phone handy so you can place those orders ASAP. Also, in case your TV or cable cuts out, you can get live updates by checking social media or the NFL website on your phone. And don't forget all the embarrassing photos you can take of your friends -- just don't share them on social media.

4. Work Laptop

Sorry, we know you are taking some time off, but lawyers with a case or deal pending are pretty much always on call. You may need your work laptop handy in case duty calls.

5. Safety First

If you're like most Americans, we're guessing you might have a few beers on game day. That's fine, but remember to stay safe. Though not a substitute for not drinking at all, you may want to look at some DUI apps and gadgets that may give you a better idea of whether you should be driving or not.

As we get ready for the weekend, make sure you have everything you need for Super Bowl Sunday. Whatever your reasons for watching, having the right gadgets and apps will make the game that much more fun.
