Twitter Attacks Revenge Porn and Hate Speech
Twitter says it will remove revenge porn -- 'non-consensual nudity' -- even before victims know it is posted.
It's a great idea, but how is that going to work? Like, how will Twitter know if something is "non-consensual" without the victim saying so?
However it happens, it'll be interesting. The new program starts next week.
"Twitter Safety"
In a blog post, the company says it is doing everything it can to fight revenge porn, harassment, and hate speech on its platform.
"This won't be a quick or easy fix, but we're committed to getting it right," Twitter said.
The company is rolling out its fixes in waves, starting this month with the program against non-consensual nudity and a better account-suspension protocol. Revenge porn includes nudity captured on hidden cameras and upskirt photos.
In November, Twitter will drill down on hateful imagery, symbols, unwanted sexual advances, spam, and related behaviors. By Christmas, the company will be pushing for peace on earth.
Peace on Earth
"We currently remove content that includes a violent threat or wishes of serious harm," the company says. "We will expand that to include types of content that glorify or condone acts of violence that result in death or serious harm."
So that means Twitter will nix threats from President Trump to unleash "fire and fury" against North Korea if it endangers the United States? Didn't think so.
For the time being, it's about revenge porn -- not revenge politics.
