The Post-OCI Process: Now, What?

Done with OCI? First off, congrats! It can't have been easy to run around campus in your best wrinkle-frees, while trying to make it to one of the most crucial (no pressure) job interviews of your career, and juggle law school on top of that.
Now that you're done, though, it's time to first take a breather and then move forward. As a 2L, there's always something that needs to be done (and that's on top of the actual school part - yikes). In doing that, however, here are 3 considerations to take while in the post-OCI process:
- Remember, you're still, um, in school. If you've missed any class or were too busy, "multi-tasking" during lecture in anticipation of your interviews during OCI week, remember that you're still primarily a law student. You still need to make passing grades, at least, for your classes. Ask your peers for their notes, or just crack open a supplement to help yourself catch up. It's still early in the semester, and you have time, so don't fret too much over any work missed.
- OCI means on-campus interview. It's only one of the many stages in the process of landing (if you do) that associate position that you interviewed for. Make sure you complete the post-OCI process tasks, such as sending a thank-you note to all your interviewers (regardless of whether or not you think a call-back is realistic, it's just common professional courtesy), and mentally prepare yourself for the prospect of an even more time-consuming interview -- the call-back.
- Resume your regular job hunt. Just because you've completed OCI doesn't mean that you've landed yourself a summer associate gig (of course it's still possible, it's just not guaranteed). It's best to continue resuming your regular job hunt for your 2L summer, because having a job during your 2L year is pretty important. While you do have a bit of time left, it's best to get started as soon as possible (read: in this job market these days, even for summer jobs, this means start now).
Now, back to work.
