Updates from the ABA Young Lawyers Division

If you're lucky enough to still call yourself "young" then we envy you. Not only is your skin and waistline still probably intact, but you get to be part of the nifty Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association.

The Young Lawyers Division is actually meeting at its annual conference in Phoenix -- right now as we write. If you didn't participate this year, then try to put it on your calendar for next year as it's a great way to network, take a mini-vacation and get all your CLE credits in one weekend.

ABA Young Lawyers Division -- "Bullyproof"

The ABA Young Lawyers Division just announced its anti-bullying initiative, called "Bullyproof," as the division's public service project for the 2013-2014 year. The initiative is geared toward parents, students, young lawyers and educators, and provides resources and education aimed at taking a bite out of bullying.

Mario Sullivan, chair of the Young Lawyers Division stated:

Too many students have suffered the emotional distress from bullying and cyberbullying for too long, and now is the time to do something to improve the learning environment for young people ... We are speaking out to let all young people who experience bullying know that they are not alone and that we are committed to making school a safer place to foster education.

Bullyproof will have three areas of focus: grass-roots outreach, legal resources for lawyers representing students, bullies and schools, and creating materials for lawyers to lobby for bullying legislation.
