4 LSU Football Players Arrested, Jailed

By Christopher Coble, Esq. on June 19, 2015 | Last updated on March 21, 2019

Starting quarterback Anthony Jennings was one of four LSU football players arrested on Thursday. Also arrested were cornerback Dwayne Thomas, defensive lineman Maquedius Bain, and defensive tackle Trey Lealaimatafao.

All four players were booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish prison and have been suspended indefinitely from the football team.

Oh, Separate Incidents

While some details are sketchy at this point, it is clear that not all the players were involved in the same criminal act. According to police reports, Jennings, Thomas, and Bain were among six males who broke into a campus apartment and stole shoes and a Playstation, allegedly in response to items being stolen from Jennings. Jennings had apparently traced some of his stolen property, including a laptop, back to the burgled apartment.

Jennings, Thomas, and Bain were all booked on unauthorized entry into an inhabited dwelling, and Thomas was hit with an additional charge of simple burglary. A conviction for unauthorized entry could result in six years in prison and a $1,000 fine, while the simple burglary charge carries a possible fine of $2,000 and 12 years in prison. All three have been released on bail.

Bad Night at Reggie's

Lealaimatafao was charged with simple battery and simple robbery following a bar fight in Baton Rouge. Eyewitnesses say he rifled through an unconscious man's pockets during the fight, and punched the man's girlfriend in the face when she tried to intervene. As of this writing, Lealaimatafao has yet to post his $15,000 bail, and he faces a combined $4,000 in fines and over seven years in jail for the battery and robbery charges.

According to The Baton Rouge Advocate, this would be Lealaimatafao's third off-field incident since his arrival on campus. Last July, he severely cut his left arm after punching through a window in the team's weight room. And he was also arrested allegedly stealing a bicycle outside of LSU's Middleton Library.
