Are small businesses great places to work because they stay out of legal trouble? Or do they stay out of legal trouble because they are great places to work?

This might be a chicken and the egg conundrum, but either way, you want your small business to be a great place to work and you don't want any lawsuits. Here are ten ways to make that happen:

1. Keep It Safe: Hackers are everywhere, and having the right cybersecurity could pay off for your small business.

2. Keep Is Social: And avoid legal trouble on social media by adhering to FTC rules, copyright laws, and a stern, yet sane social media policy for employees.

3. Keep It in the Family: There are bonuses to running a family business, but you may want to protect the business by incorporating and having pre-nups and a succession plan.

4. Keep It Equal: Treating all employees and customers the same will help you avoid lawsuits for disability discrimination, LGBT discrimination, age discrimination, and pregnancy discrimination.

5. Keep It International: Make sure your business is open to hiring immigrants, and doing it the right way with E-Verify and I-9s and without discriminating.
